Infectious Diseases Institute
Background:
The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to build capacity of health systems in Africa (or the delivery of sustainable, high quality care and prevention of HIV/AIDS and related infectious diseases through training, research and advanced clinical services. IDI has four operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: prevention, care and treatment, training; research; and laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-John Hopkins University Core Lab).
As part of a plan to sustain Its main objectives, IDI has created (1) position in the Finance, HR and Operations Department as follows;
Stores Officer
* Role summary: Working under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, the stores officer will be responsible for developing of the stores system, receiving, stocking and issuing of supplies and materials. He/she will assist in the writing and updating of departmental training procedures /manuals. Will also monitor inventory levels; check slock items for reorder, and maintain stock records and related reporting.
Responsibilities
Responsible for receiving,stocking and issuing supplies and materials.
Monitor inventory levels;check stock items for reorder; maintain stock records.
Inspect goods received regarding shortages or breakage
Classify items, allocate and track physical location of stock items within the stores.
Ensure precautionary methods are observed in receiving, handling an storing items requiring special treatment.
Supports the procurement function indenting enforcing of suppliers' obligations and initiate action in case of supplies.
To take adequate security measures to prevent theft of items in stores.
To periodically verify physical stock of items.
Ensure order in all stores and efficient utilization of available storage space.
Ensure that the stores are properly maintained (including identity labels) and kept clean and tidy.
Education and Experience:
Degree in Stores Management, or any other related field.
Experience of at least three years in a busy reputable organization preferably in an NGO setting.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Knowledge of Inventory methods and procedures.
Knowledge of the characteristics, uses and proper handling/storage techniques of items supplied
Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to maintain stock records, reports and inventories
Good written and oral communication skiils
Good Interpersonal skills
Good knowledge of computer applicaiions.
Additional requirements:
Honesty and trustworthiness
Ability to maintain stores records in an orderly manner.
Ability to lift and carry heavy items without difficulty.
